Meet the Dog Who Shaped My Philosophy
Hi, I’m Bradley.
Before I trained dogs, I taught middle school. And honestly, those two worlds aren’t all that different. Both require patience, structure, and knowing how to get through when things get tough.
My journey into dog training started with Argo, a five-year-old Rottweiler/German Shepherd mix I adopted from a friend. He was reactive, aggressive toward other dogs, and full of contradictions. Argo was skittish about certain things, but the second a frisbee came out, he’d scale a cliff to get it. High-drive, tightly wound, insanely smart, and, as I like to say, a little spicy.
I tried a lot of the same things you probably have: YouTube videos, books, a prong collar, advice from trainers. I was able to DIY my way through some of the reactivity, but the dog socialization piece never quite clicked. The more I tried to fix him, the more frustrated I got. The breakthrough came when I stopped trying to mold him into the dog I thought he should be and started accepting the dog he actually is.
That mindset shift changed everything and got me the label of “dog whisperer” from my clients.
I realized that lasting change doesn’t come from micromanaging behavior. It comes from clear expectations, consistent accountability, and meeting your dog where they are. I also threw myself into learning the science of dog behavior: seminars, mentorships, late-night research, trial and error. Once I stopped helping him when he didn’t actually need help, and started giving clear feedback instead, things quickly got better. That was the moment I stopped being stuck and started becoming a “real” trainer.
But I also realized something else—you can’t just train the dog. Real progress comes when the person holding the leash understands what to do, how to do it, and why it works. That’s where I focus a big part of my work: coaching people just as much as I train their dogs. Because you’re half the team. Training is a communication system: it’s how you live with your dog, the things you allow and don’t allow.
Training is NOT a quick fix that requires no input or maintenance from you, the dog’s owner.
That philosophy became the foundation for Canine Communication, a dog training approach built on clear communication, practical leadership, and consistency in how we live with our dogs. This approach can yield lasting, real-world results rather than a life of yelling commands, micromanaging every decision your dog makes, and just generally staying stuck.
Since starting Canine Communication, I’ve worked with hundreds of dogs and their humans—each with their own challenges, goals, and “is this ever going to get better?” moments. And every time, I come back to the same truth…
When the human has a plan and the dog understands it, real behavior change is absolutely possible.

Blind Shepherd Learns Calm
“Violet is mostly blind and used to pull, circle, and jump on guests. After her board and train with Bradley, she walks calmly, greets visitors politely, and the house finally feels peaceful again. He truly is a canine whisperer.”

Unshakable at the Market
“Bradley worked wonders with my little dog. At the farmers market, surrounded by barking dogs and crowds, she just looked up at us, laid down, and stayed calm. A stranger even said, ‘Your dog is so well behaved!’”

Laddie
Stopped Daily Screaming
“Even after three trainers, our Sheltie’s noise reactivity escalated daily making all our lives miserable. Now our days are no longer filled with non-stop barking, running with a spray bottle and screaming NO! We have a happy dog and home all thanks to Bradley.”

What I Stand For (and Train By)
Honesty
Progress starts with the truth. I’ll give you an honest assessment of your dog’s behavior, your lifestyle with your dog, and how those two things might be linked.
Clarity
Training works best when both dogs and humans understand exactly what’s expected.
Discipline as Love
Boundaries build trust. Clear rules help dogs feel safe, settled, and free to relax.
Service
I’m here to support you through the entire process and beyond. I could be the best dog trainer in the world, and it wouldn’t matter at all if you can’t be successful when I’m not around.
Simplicity
Training can be made simple and broken down into replicable steps. You don’t need to be a professional dog trainer to own a dog who behaves as though you are one.
Leadership
When you lead, your dog can follow. They can trust you to give them direction, to handle the scary things, and to stand up for them when needed. This is what allows a dog to feel safe.
